Students and Volunteers

Honours Students
Psychology undergraduate students who are interested in applying to do their honours thesis in the Determinants of Child Development Lab under Dr. Madigan’s supervision must meet the program admission criteria. They should also have a strong interest in our lab’s research and be highly motivated with strong critical thinking and communication skills. Prospective honours students are encouraged to first confirm their eligibility and fit. They can then reach out to Dr. Madigan to express interest during the prospective supervisor meeting period specified on the Department of Psychology website (typically in the fall of the year prior to the intended start of honours).
Current Opportunities:
Dr. Madigan typically supervises one or two honours students per year.

Graduate Students
Dr. Madigan only supervises graduate students in the University of Calgary’s Clinical Psychology program, which requires a strong commitment to both academic research and clinical training in psychology. Ideal applicants demonstrate a keen interest in child mental health and a dedication to working with children and families to promote healthy development trajectories. Team-oriented individuals whose interests align with our research projects, should review the Q&A document below and visit the Clinical Program website to learn more about applying.
Current Opportunities:
Dr. Madigan will review applications submitted in fall 2025 to the University of Calgary’s Clinical Psychology program for fall 2026 admission. Consult the resources above for additional information.

Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteering with our lab is an opportunity for highly motivated individuals to immerse themselves in current research and gain hands-on experiences in a collaborative environment. Volunteers will be mentored by experienced staff and graduate students, as well as the lab director. Volunteering in our lab offers a platform to demonstrate and build invaluable research and professional skills. It also provides an exceptional pathway to strengthen preparedness for honours, graduate school, or paid research positions.
Current Opportunities:
The lab is not currently accepting volunteer applications. Check back in the fall for updates.
